Tropical Weather Update for Monday, August 27, 2012

Tropical Storm Isaac continues to intensify in the Gulf of Mexico. Below is the latest information.

Various advisories are in effect for most of the Gulf Coast; for the latest information, check the iMap on our home page. As it continues to move northwest, Isaac will intensify and will likely become a hurricane within the next day. Flooding from storm surge and up to 18 inches of rain will be possible. Isaac will make landfall near New Orleans tomorrow night. Tornadoes will also be a threat, especially along the coastal areas. Here is the tornado forecast from the SPC.

The coastal areas are especially prone to tornadoes because the differences in friction across the smooth ocean surface and rough land allows vorticity to be amplified and the low level convergence helps to spin a tornado up from this vorticity.

We will be monitoring the situation closely as it evolves. Please stay tuned to ChaserTV for further updates and live streaming video of weather events.
