Tropical Forecast for Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Since conditions are relatively quiet across the country, we’re going to take a look at the tropics and in particular Tropical Depression #9. Below is the latest on the depression.

The depression should become a tropical storm later today. The current forecast challenge is the track of the system and as you can tell by the models in the image, they are somewhat divergent. For now, we are favoring more of a west-northwestward track across the Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic and then make more of a northwest turn, depending on how far east the ridge over the Atlantic tracks. This track is not set in stone and will be updated as the storm evolves.
