Stream on ChaserTV

If you’d like to stream video from your dash this season, you’ve come to the right place! For only $40.00 per year you too can be apart of the ChaserTV iMap network and stream live video from your dashboard to the world!

Hardware Requirements for Video Streaming:

The following list is what we have found works best with our streaming system. Please contact us if you have questions regarding substitutions that you may wish to use.

  1. Windows PC (laptop or desktop) that can run in the vehicle
  2. iMapTracker PC desktop client application (WDT provided software)
    • Captures GPS data
    • Captures still images from video device
    • Takes storm reports (tornado, hail, wind)
    • Converts camera video into low bandwidth stream and sends back to streaming media server at WDT
    • Allows video from a single source (camera) to connect to multiple applications simultaneously. This allows a user to transmit still images from the cam as well as stream live video with Adobe Media Live Encoder
    • USB webcam
    • Camera that has live video output via Firewire or USB
  3. Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder (free, provided by WDT)
  4. (recommended) ManyCam PC application (free, provided by WDT), or other video source splitting software
  5. Video source, can be any of the following:
    • Firewire connection NOT recommended due to difficulties converting to a low-bandwidth, mobile stream. Also creates problems if camera is disconnected or shuts off unexpectedly.
    • An “Easy Cap” is recommended. Google for “Easycap”, typically costs $10-15 to convert from composite to USB
  6. GPS hardware
    • Must output in GPS standard NMEA format for iMapTracker
      • Most dash-mount GPS displays will NOT provide NMEA output
      • Delorme GPS units will NOT work with 64 bit PCs
    • GpsGate recommend for users wishing to share one GPS with multiple programs (Tracker, GPS map software, radar software, etc) http://franson.com/gpsgate/
    • We recommend one of the USB “puck” GPS receivers available on Amazon, eBay, etc. These typically cost $30-40 (Recommended: BU-353)
  7. Wireless internet connection
    • Using either an air card or a tethered cell phone
