Forecast for Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Thunderstorms are possible today for portions of the Plains and Ohio River Valley. Below is a look at the forecast maps for today.

A front across portions of Oklahoma will be the focal point for thunderstorms this afternoon across the Plains. Daytime heating will allow for sufficient destabilization through the early afternoon. As thunderstorms develop, hail to 1″ and damaging winds will be possible. Individual cells will likely merge into lines later tonight.

Strong shear is present across portions of the Ohio River Valley due to a trough over the Great Lakes region. Lack of moisture and cloud cover may limit instability, but if development is able to occur, a few small bow echoes will be possible, with damaging winds being the main threat.
