Forecast for Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Thunderstorm activity is possible for portions of the Northern Plains and Southeast. Below is a look at today’s forecast maps.

A cold front across the Northern Rockies will continue to move eastward through the day, bringing a chance of thunderstorms to portions of the Northern Rockies and Plains. Upslope flow in the lee of the Rockies will also aid in destabilization and thunderstorm development. Hail to 1″ and damaging winds will be the main threats.

Thunderstorms are also possible across portions of the Southeast ahead of a cold front. While cloud cover may hamper destabilization, those areas with clear skies will destabilize rapidly. As thunderstorms develop, precipitable water values near 2 inches will allow for the possibility of wet microbursts.
