Forecast for Wednesday, August 1, 2012

The main focus for thunderstorm potential will be across the Northern Plains today. Below is a look at the forecast maps for today.

An upper level trough over the Northern Rockies and Southern Canada will continue to move east through the day. Thunderstorms will be possible ahead of the attendant cold front associated with this trough. Daytime heating, ascent ahead of the front, and moisture advection will be sufficient for thunderstorm development. As thunderstorms develop, hail to 1.5″ and damaging winds will be the main threats.
