Forecast for Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Thunderstorms are possible today for portions of the Northern Plains, Ohio River Valley, and Southeast. Below are the forecast maps for today.

Thunderstorms are moving across the Northern Plains this morning and further development is possible this afternoon with the increase in daytime heating. Damaging wind and hail to 1″ will be the main threats, but some hail may be larger.

Thunderstorm redevelopment is possible for portions of Indiana and Ohio this afternoon ahead of a weak cold front. This is largely contingent upon the weakening of the cold pool that was produced by this morning’s storms. Damaging winds and possibly some hail will be possible.

In the Southeast, storms are moving across portions of Alabama, Georgia, and Northern Florida. It is unlikely that these areas will see further development, but ahead of the complex in Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida, thunderstorms are likely this afternoon. Damaging winds will be the main threat.
