Forecast for Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Thunderstorms will be possible today for portions of the Mid Atlantic and Southeast. Below are the forecast maps for today.

A shortwave trough moving across portions of the Great Lakes and Northeast is responsible for thunderstorms this morning across the Northeast. More development across the Northeast, Mid Atlantic, and Southeast is anticipated this afternoon as a cold front associated with another trough moves into western parts of the region. Hail to 2″ and damaging winds will be the main threats. Isolated tornadoes can’t be entirely ruled out as the system moves further east and shear increases.
