Forecast for Thursday, July 19, 2012

Thunderstorms are possible for portions of the Great Lakes and the Ohio River Valley. Below are the forecast maps for today.

Thunderstorms will be possible across portions of the Northern Plains along a warm front this afternoon. While forcing on the large scale will be weak, ascent along the warm front and daytime heating may be sufficient for the development of thunderstorms. If thunderstorms are able to develop, hail to 2″ and damaging winds will be the main threats.

For the Ohio River Valley and Mid Atlantic regions, thunderstorm redevelopment will be possible ahead of a cold front near the Appalachians. Multicell storms with damaging winds and hail to 2″ will be possible, but an isolated tornado cannot be entire ruled out.
