Forecast for Thursday, August 9, 2012

There will be a large area with the potential for thunderstorms today. Below are the forecast maps for today.

    

A trough over the Great Lakes region will move southeast through the day today bringing a chance for thunderstorms expanding from the Ohio River Valley to the Northeast. Ahead of the cold front, there are some breaks in the clouds, which will allow the atmosphere to destabilize. Some storms will be multicellular with the potential for damaging winds and hail to 1.5″.  There is a tornado risk as the surface low moves toward the east, but any tornadoes that form will be isolated.
