Forecast for Monday, September 17, 2012

Thunderstorms and heavy rain will be possible across a large part of the Southeast today. Here is a recent radar/frontal analysis.

As the low currently in East Texas continues to move toward the east, wind shear will become better organized. As thunderstorms develop later this afternoon primarily across southern portions of Mississippi and Alabama, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will be possible. Perhaps the bigger threat will be the flooding potential. Precipitable water values across this region range from 1.7-2.2 inches. With the front in place over the Southeast, this will lead to the potential for very heavy rain, and possibly flooding, especially across portions of Mississippi and Alabama.
