There will be a chance for thunderstorms across Virginia and the Carolinas. Below are the forecast maps for today.
Thunderstorms will be possible later this afternoon ahead of a cold front across portions of the Appalachians. Daytime heating and upslope flow will aid in the destabilization of the atmosphere. As thunderstorms begin to develop, hail to 1″ and damaging winds will be the main threats. Isolated tornadoes will be possible, but weak shear will limit the tornado potential. Some of the storms that develop could become multicellular, which will increase the damaging wind potential.
