Today’s areas of concern will be for portions of the High Plains and the Mid Atlantic region. Below are the forecast maps for today.
Moisture is being brought northward across the Northern High Plains by southerly winds. This moisture and daytime heating will contribute to destabilization of the atmosphere. Upslope flow along the lee of the Rockies may be sufficient for thunderstorm development, though there is some concern that the upslope flow won’t be strong enough to penetrate the LFC. Any storms that do form will have the potential for hail to 1.5″, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.
Thunderstorms will also be possible in portions of the Northeast and Mid Atlantic ahead of a cold front. Any storms that are able to form will be capable of some damaging winds.
