Forecast for Friday, July 6, 2012

Portions of the Northern Plains had some thunderstorm activity this morning, but more is expected later today. Below is a look at the forecast maps for today.

Later today, more thunderstorms will develop across Minnesota and Wisconsin due to strong daytime heating. These storms will develop ahead of an area of low pressure and the attendant cold front. As thunderstorms develop, hail to 1.5″ and damaging winds will be the primary threats. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out as the low over eastern portions of South Dakota moves northeastward. Any tornadoes that form will be weak and the most likely location for tornadoes will be in central portions of Minnesota, just to the south of the warm front.
