Forecast for Friday, July 13, 2012

Thunderstorms are possible today for portions of the Pacific Northwest and Central Plains. Below are the forecast maps for today.

A weak upper level low over Washington will remain nearly stationary today. As moisture advection and daytime heating increases, thunderstorms will begin to develop this afternoon. Hail to 1″ and damaging winds will be the main threats, but an isolated tornado cannot be entirely ruled out.

Thunderstorms will also be possible across portions of the Northern Plains ahead of a cold front as moisture is advected northward. This moisture, coupled with daytime heating, will be sufficient for the development of thunderstorms. With the storms, hail to 1.5″ and damaging winds will be possible.
