Forecast for Friday, August 17, 2012

Thunderstorms are possible today for portions of the Central High Plains and Southeast. Below are the forecast maps for today.

Southerly winds across the Central Plains will bring some moisture northward into portions of the Central High Plains. A system over the Northern Rockies will provide some weak forcing for the storms. Any storms that develop will have the potential for hail to 1″ and damaging winds.

Across the Southeast, thunderstorms will be possible ahead of a cold front currently across portions of Mississippi and Tennessee. Daytime heating will help to destabilize the atmosphere and thunderstorms should begin to develop by mid afternoon. Any storms that develop will have the potential for damaging winds.
